Lyrebird Ridge Organic Winery and Retreat

Lyrebird Ridge Organic Winery and Retreat is a small, certified organic winery situated on 40 acres of bush land only 20 minutes from Kangaroo Valley, 25 minutes to Berry and 15 minutes from Nowra. The winery has been developed over fifteen years; the first vines being planted in 1994. There are 2 acres under vine and a natural gully runs through the property.

Why are we a ‘Retreat’?

Coming to our property means having a break from the everyday connection to technology. There is no internet, phone or television reception in our accommodation. We find this helps people to unwind and relax for the duration of their stay. Of course, we can provide guests with the necessary facilities if needed, although we don’t reveal the ‘hot spot’ for your mobile unless requested.

Pet Friendly Accommodation

Please phone to chat about bringing your pet so we can ensure our property is suitable for them.

Our resident pets are Molly, the Border Collie, is 7 years old and loves rounding up the sheep and chickens and racing the postie motorbike to the front dam and back. Rosie is our newest addition to the family. She is a Golden Retriever puppy and is learning all about farm life from Molly. Both dogs are very friendly.

Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives

Our plan is to be as self- sufficient as possible for both our business and personal life.

Our electricity requirements are met by a substantial Solar Power System. We operate a generator if needed and our hot water and cooking is gas.

We use naturally fallen trees on our property to provide wood for slow combustion fireplaces in both our home and the guest accommodation.

Rain water tanks collect 70 000 litres of water for drinking and five dams provide irrigation for our vineyard, fruit trees and vegetable beds.

Compost and chickens dispose of any food scraps. Other recyclables are collected, sorted and removed to the local recycle centre.

Sheep provide a motor mower service outside the vineyard during Summer and Spring. During the cooler non- growth periods, the sheep graze in the vineyard. This helps not only keep the weeds and grass down but also allows for some fertilizer. Along with the chickens sharing the vineyard we find this combinations works beautifully to help keep the vineyard healthy.

Organic Chambourcin

The Chambourcin grape is suitable as a table grape, it is of hybrid heritage and well known for the strong colour and capacity to resist disease, making it ideally suited to organic wine making. Chambourcin is the main grape variety grown with tastings of our available vintages as well as our port available at our cellar door.

No chemicals, no preservatives

From vine to bottle, produced on our premises, our organic wine contains no chemicals and is spray and preservative free. High in anti-oxidants and with no known allergens it can be recommended as a healthier alternative to those preferring chemical free wine.

Our chickens are housed in mobile chicken tractors and are moved along the vinrows daily and let free range when we work in the vineyard. The vineyards are fenced and completely covered with netting to keep out kangaroos, wombats, birds and rabbits.

Wildlife

Forty acres of land provides an abundant range of birds and wildlife with the shy Lyrebird being glimpsed in the natural bush corridors running through the property.

Fishing

There are five dams located around the property allowing for irrigation, fishing for silver perch, yabbying and swimming.

BBQ

A covered BBQ area is ideally situated at the edge of a large grassed area, between the cellar door, overlooking a natural gully and the vineyards. Visitors and guests are welcome to utilise these facilities at any time during their stay.
